Working with our Neighborhood Water Watch Program, CRK recently discovered another sewage spill in Tanyard Creek. This came a month after a private lift station dumped nearly 10,000 gallons of raw sewage into Tanyard Creek and caused a large fish kill. (See RiverFLASH, July 9.) An enforcement action regarding that spill is currently being led by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

We brought this newest spill to the attention of Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management, and they conducted a thorough investigation, locating several potential sources including private businesses. Bacteria levels downstream in Tanyard Park have since subsided. CRK attended a Collier Hills neighborhood meeting with city officials Wednesday evening to provide an update on the situation and will continue our weekly monitoring at multiple locations in the creek.
